  Beginning to Migrate (some) Content to the NEW Doug Alone I have had the idea since early on in this blog to possibly move it from this sort of hosted/third-party set-up to something more owned by me. This past week, I started to make this a reality: https://www.dougalone.com There are a lot of reasons behind this but let us start with caveat. I have exactly one real complaint about Blogger/Blogger and otherwise most of the decisions are about my creative process itself.  The One Real Complaint The newer Blogger themes tend to be plenty responsive as they are but there is still some degree of back-end handling that tries to serve up a "mobile-friendly" version of the page [note, this is based on looking into the errors and messages sent, I could be wrong]. This is the exact same page but Google, itself, treats this as a website trying to share multiple copies of the same content and basically passes this off as a reason to not index the site.  After over a year of havin...

The Doug Alone Taking a Nap for the Month of July [probably August]

The past two days have been a LOT of noise and fury and sound. After a week of lesser amounts of noise and fury and sound. As of right now, something like 90% of what I own is on a shipping container [with around 6% left to pack and move, though it's the big 6%] and 4% to be used in the final week here in the United States [or donated/recycled/etc].

The movers should be here in the next 10-20 minutes and then chaos will reign once more as I try to sit quietly in a corner and not bother anyone until they finish that big 6% [beds, furniture, some of the heavier boxes, the computer I am currently typing this on].

At one point, I was going to do a little showcase of my "solo set-up" for the next month+. Take photos. Don't quite have the time now, alas. So I'll just lay it out:

  • Dice box [which has, I think, 5 complete sets of polynomial dice]. 
  • Additional dice bag with 3 sets of Fate dice. 
  • ShadowDark. 
  • The new Gamemaster Apprentice Base Deck 2E. 
  • Fate Condensed. 
  • Loner's new-ish two-volume set. 
  • Mythic's main book. 
  • Knave 2e.
  • Tricube Tales Solo [though I need to print a better copy]
  • Arcane Agents one-sheet [though I might print a few more]

That should be more than enough for a month. I mean, Tricube + Fate + Loner + Mythic + GMA Base 2 + ShadowDark is enough to likely play until I am tired of the concept of solo games. As much as I like variety, that should top me off until we see our stuff again sometime in mid(?)-August. 

There's also a clipboard, a couple of notebooks, some pencils.

That being said, time for this blog to go dark for at least a month and maybe two. I don't have a particular "will restart" moment just yet because there are so many tasks involving getting utilities turned on, stuff enrolled, finding new grocery stories, and all that. Jet lag. New schools. Two new languages. Finding out which foods I can eat in a whole new country.

I have played two (sort of three) sessions of Bleak + Pearl. I have played a bit of a different game that I won't spoil. My hope is to maybe play one more session of B+P this weekend before the flight. Then maybe play a couple of quicker sessions as I go through jet lag, etc. Somewhere around mid-ish-August to get back into playing more regularly [around unpacking and sorting] and then

Kick off around September 1, 2025 with a bit of  a stockpile. 

But we'll see.

Content Warning: death amongst teens    -- Some Quick Background and Links -- A week or so ago, Brite Palette posted a version of Sinister Semester X  to the Solo_Roleplaying subreddit and asked for feedback . I played through it and gave feedback. The version on Itch (first link) is the final version with some additional tweaks and some nice graphics.  It is a cool little "experience" generator that emulates a kind of J-Horror inspired "bad semester"//horror movie. Winning is in the eye of the beholder. The idea is to mostly take the punches as they show up and have a good time putting the experience to journal.
