Waking Back up the The Doug Alone

Ok, so that picture is a sunset and not a sunrise. This means it does not quite work for a post about returning to blogging after a couple of months of moving and general hiatus, but it's also just a picture to celebrate the move to a new country and mostly pulling it off. Starting to learn the language(s) more and more but there's a long way to go until I internalize it. Getting several of the accounts set-up. Just generally learning which shop sells what and what brand names I need to look out for. That sort of thing.

Next Monday, September 1, I'll kick off a The GLOW campaign that I started playing on pen and paper while staying in one 90%-empty house and played a bit more while staying in a different 90%-empty house. The "session-0-slash-launch" post will explain why it showed up. Probably on Friday, at least that's the plan (September 5) should kick back off Bleak + Pearl season 2 after several months. Both of those posts were basically completed in June and July. 

Like this one, which I am writing on the first of August. I'm trying to get the buffer up, though, because now my spouse is starting their job [today] and we'll need to get our daughter ready to start a new school in a new country and all that. Then, somewhere near the end of August all of our American stuff, including most of my RPG materials, will be showing up. The movers are supposed to help unpack it but that might be easy for some materials and rough for others. 

All that considered, I assume it will be something like the second or third week of September before I really get to get back to regular sessions of solo play. So having a few things that I can tinker with before getting back into more complicated things is nice.

I'm about to go through and double check the four or so posts I have ready and start scheduling them to begin showing up next week. For a bit, we'll be back in the multi-campaign format the blog started with. One each per week. With a day reserved for other tidbits that strike my fancy.

In that light, enjoy the picture of my first sunset in Belgium. Taken around 10pm at night.

Content Warning: death amongst teens    -- Some Quick Background and Links -- A week or so ago, Brite Palette posted a version of Sinister Semester X  to the Solo_Roleplaying subreddit and asked for feedback . I played through it and gave feedback. The version on Itch (first link) is the final version with some additional tweaks and some nice graphics.  It is a cool little "experience" generator that emulates a kind of J-Horror inspired "bad semester"//horror movie. Winning is in the eye of the beholder. The idea is to mostly take the punches as they show up and have a good time putting the experience to journal. Expanding my Tricubes Tales Solo Card-Based Oracles and Adding Several Framework Rules (July 14, 2024 Edition)

When I started playing T he Bloody Hands using Tricubes Tales Solo I used the system as is  except for tweaking the basic oracle to something a bit more complicated. That worked just fine through the first four "episodes" and I still like my little "Dice of Changes" style resolution. However, I played a TriSolo style game with my partner and have been trying to introduce some more friends to the concept of how solo playing works (yes, I understand the irony) and sometimes it takes a bit more of a framework to kick off some ideas. That got me thinking about how to expand on some of the inherent design choices in TriSolo to make something that could meet folks more half-way and could be adjusted/tweaked on the fly based on the comfort level of the player.  Here is my current working model.
